To assist TAs with their continued professional development, various programs—lectures, discussions, and workshops—are conducted over the course of the school year, covering a wide range of issues and problems. The topics are based on the responses and suggestions (both formal and informal) given by TAs who participate in any TAP program, and therefore they reflect the stated interests and needs of the TAs themselves. The programs provide help with topics such as: testing and grading, coping with the demands of being both teacher and student, teaching effectiveness, managing time, and dealing with critical incidents in the classroom.
You may attend as many or as few sessions as you wish; there is no fee, but pre-registering is appreciated. The workshops are broken down into Certificate Programs, each concerned with a particular area (e.g., assessment, technology, etc.), and graduate students and postdocs who attend at least four sessions in a particular workshop series will receive a certificate of participation. You may earn multiple certificates.
